How to use Google’s new Gemini desk without handing it the shop
·Boston, Westford, Lowell, Framingham
Google announced new Gemini tools for small business owners on October 20, 2026, including a business page inside Gemini. From that page an owner can connect the Google listing, Google Ads, and Workspace, plus apps such as Canva and Shopify. It will not build your website, answer the phone, or place you in the map pack. Used tightly, it saves an evening. Used loosely, it publishes nonsense in your name.
Do this once
- Open the Gemini app and the new business page. Sign in with the Google account that already owns the shop’s listing.
- Connect Google Business Profile. If the shop has more than one location, connect only the real door. Do not add a second town to chase searches.
- Connect Ads or Canva only if you already use them. Skip the rest until a task needs it.
- Write one sentence Gemini must not change: the business name, the town, the phone, and the hours.
Three tasks worth doing this week
- Hours post. Tell it: ‘Write a short Google post that Saturday hours in Westford are 8 to noon. Do not add a discount.’ Read it. Post it yourself on the listing.
- Photo caption. Give it one photo from a finished job and the town. Ask for two sentences a customer would understand. You publish it.
- Monthly note. Paste the calls and direction requests from the listing into a sheet first. Ask Gemini to summarize what changed. You decide what to fix.
Do not give it these
- Reviews. It must not write them, ask only happy customers, or tell people what words to use.
- A page for every ZIP in Middlesex County. Same paragraph, new town name, is not local SEO.
- A price or an appointment. If it drafts a reply, you send it after you check the number.
The useful habit is short. Gemini drafts. You check the name, the town, and the hours. Then you publish. A shop in Lowell and a shop in Framingham do the same three tasks. The facts in the draft have to be theirs.
